Our club is embarking on a fundraising campaign to help with rising costs and to continue to offer scholarship support to families who would struggle financially to participate in the sport. Like most others these days, the club finds itself facing higher costs in equipment, uniforms, and field rental. This additional funding also helps the club keep its fees at reasonable levels, and helps bring the sport to youth in the West Des Moines Community that otherwise would not be able to afford to play.
Your help is needed, and there are a number of ways you can do so. We have a variety of corporate sponsorship levels so if you have a business or work for someone else, we would welcome yours or their financial support. Our sponsors are recognized by the club in a number of ways. Contact us if you’d like more information about this opportunity.
The club also plans to partner with a few area restaurants for a promotional night where proceeds from that evening will come back to the club. We will announce those promotions once they’re arranged so you can plan to frequent those partners on those evenings. The club also hopes to attract grant support and plans to apply for those that make sense for the club and its mission. If you know of any grant opportunities, please pass them onto our club so we can look into. We thank you in advance for your support.
Mark your calendars for the 2023 Spring Apparel Store from March 1 – April 3. Orders will ship directly to your home once order complete.
The high school girls team won the Midwest Girls Lacrosse League title on Saturday completing an undefeated season. The Tigers defeated Duchesne in the quarters, Papillion in the semis, and then beat the Lincoln Liberty 18-15 in the hard-fought finale. Congratulations players and coaches! What a season!
In partnership with the West Des Moines and Clive parks & rec departments the club held a basic skills clinic for beginning players on September 13 and 15. Our coaches and high school players worked with 25 boys and girls in grades 3-8 to introduce the game to them. A big thank you to all the coaches and players involved.
Several WDM Lax players were recognized for their play this past season. The Midwest Girls Lacrosse League announced their All Conference selections.
Making the First Team were Alyssa Bird, Emma Larson, and Jade Wilson. Selected to the Second Team were Ella Thompson and Alli Harty. Congratulations girls!
The club’s first Alumni Game was a big success! Current and past players squared off at Tiger Field for bragging rights, and the “young” guys prevailed in the waning seconds 10-9. With some well-placed timeouts, the “old” guys made a good showing with friendly banter going back and forth. Thanks to all that participated and that put on the event. The club hopes to hold the game annually so please spread the word so we can get more alumni involved.
Coaches and players from our club helped run a multi-night camp put on by the CanPlay organization which provides no-cost athletic and youth development opportunities for kids. The camp was held June 13-16 at Linnan Park in Grimes, and was the first of its kind. WDM Lax staff and players worked with 25 boys and girls from the metro on the basic skills of lacrosse. USA Lacrosse also supported the event with an equipment grant given to CanPlay. Thank you to all that participated and supported the worthy event.
Sixteen teams from Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska and Iowa representing 9 lacrosse clubs particpated in our annual girls invitational on Saturday, April 23 at the MidAmerican Energy RecPlex in West Des Moines. Competition was held at the high school, middle school and youth age levels. West Des Moines Lacrosse would like to thank all those that participated as well as the many volunteers who made the event happen.
The West Des Moines Lacrosse Club (WDMLAX) fields boys and girls teams for players in grades 3-12. We offer programs for youth, middle school and high school. The club is an all-volunteer, non-profit 501c3 organization, and strives to provide players with the best coaching, facilities, and competition available. WDMLAX is a member of several leagues based on gender and age of the players. We welcome players from various communities and schools in central Iowa. Regardless of whether you've played the game before, you are welcome to join our club or join us for a practice to see if you like the sport. We are not affliated nor sponsored by a school district, however, we utlize West Des Moines School District facilities and thank them for their support to grow the sport of lacrosse in Iowa. See the About Us page for more information about our programs
