The Iowa Lacrosse Association and USA Lacrosse sponsored a skills development clinic for new players on September 14 & 16 in West Des Moines.  Coaches and players from the West Des Moines Lacrosse Club helped run the two-night clinic.  Boys and girls throughout the metro in grades 3-8 were introduced to the basic skills of the sport, and also received a free lacrosse stick and a 1 year membership to USA Lacrosse as part of the promotion.  63 new players took part in the event.  Thank you to all involved!

Youth Boys Compete In Iowa Games

Our 14U and 10U boys teams competed in the Iowa Games on June 5.  Unfortunately our 12U team was unable to compete because of the lack of registered teams at that age level.  Competition was held at the Prairie Ridge Sports Complex.  The 14U team finished second in the competition going 2-1 on the day.  Our 10U Boys won their first game of the year and showed much improvement considering most on the team had not played before this spring.  Congratulations to the players and coaches!

Club Volunteers Recognized

At the high school end of season picnic the board of directors recognized several volunteers for their outstanding commitment to the club.  Receiving Club Appreciation Awards were Dr. Allen Zagoren, one of our high school boys coaches.  Coach Z is retiring and played a large role in developing our goalies and providing overall coaching support.  Mike Ross, a parent volunteer, served the club in many roles including board member and club manager for several years.  Edie & Randy DePhillips were also recognized for their leadership roles as board members and Edie serving as club president. A special thanks to them and all our volunteers!

HS Teams in Playoff Action

Our High School Girls team hosted the MGLL quarterfinal games at Tiger Field at Valley High School, and prevailed over Omaha Central 14-3 in the nightcap.  They defeated Papillion 14-4 in the semis and fell to Lincoln Liberty 13-8 in the championship game at Midland University in Fremont.  Our High School Boys team qualified for the NELAX playoffs but fell 16-9 to Millard West in the quarterfinals ending their season.  Great job players and coaches!

About US

The West Des Moines Lacrosse Club (WDMLAX) fields boys and girls teams for players in grades 3-12. We offer programs for youth, middle school and high school.  The club is an all-volunteer, non-profit 501c3 organization, and strives to provide players with the best coaching, facilities, and competition available.  WDMLAX is a member of several leagues based on gender and age of the players.  We welcome players from various communities and schools in central Iowa. Regardless of whether you've played the game before, you are welcome to join our club or join us for a practice to see if you like the sport.  We are not affliated nor sponsored by a school district, however, we utlize West Des Moines School District facilities and thank them for their support to grow the sport of lacrosse in Iowa.  See the About Us page for more information about our programs
